Ich bin ziemlich begeistert von der Hardware der Toniebox. Ein Hörspielabspielgerät für Kinder mit WLAN und NFC. Ich finde hat das System schön beschrieben. 
Die Software überzeugt mich aber nicht. Ich bin da altmodisch aber ich finde es unheimlich wenn Geräte selbständig in Internet funken wollen. Ich denke das sollte alles schön im lokalen Netzwerk funktionieren. Das wäre auch ganz einfach denkbar man drückt auf einen Knopf die Toniebox macht ein Webinterface auf ich kann mich lokal verbinden, Lade meine Audio Dateien auf die Box verknüpfe sie mit NFCs und gut ist. Wenn man noch das Geschäftsmodell mit dem Verkauf der Hörspiele dazu haben will kann man das auch sicher elegant regeln. Ich weiss das ist nicht ganz so einfach wie die jetzige Lösung aber deutlich beruhigender für mich wäre sie schon.
Also habe ich mich nach Alternativ Lösungen umgesehen und gefunden habe ich:
- Die Raspberry Pi Jukebox für Kinder finde ich auch spitze.
Aber die Bedienung ist halt nicht so super wie bei der Toniebox, außerdem weiß ich nicht ob das Hörspiel immer an der gleichen Stelle weiterspielt wie bei der Toniebox. Die Idee wurde aufgegriffen und um ein Webinterface erweitert.
Die Hardware lässt sich vielleicht noch verbessern in dem man statt des Raspberry Pi 3 ein Raspberry Pi Zero (W) nimmt,in Zusammenspiel mit dem Pirate Radio Bündel. Aber das Setup sieht jetzt wieder nicht Kindersicher aus. Müsste also in einen anderes Gehäuse. Zusammen kostet es also ca. 90 Euro. Ohne Akku bzw. Powerbank.
Eine andere Idee wäre als Eingabe ein USB Num Pad mit dem Pi Zero Docking Hub zu nutzten oder ein Paar alte Logitech V20 Lautsprecher die haben Multimedia Tasten (ob sie ansprechbar sind kann ich aber nicht sagen) und eine intrigierte USB „Soundkarte“ Dann brauch man aber jeweils noch einen USB HUB um das RFID Lesegerät anzuschließen. - Die nächste Idee war eine altes Smartphone mit NFC hat ja im Prinzip auch die Gesamte Technik die in der Toniebox steckt. Leider gibt es da auch diverse Stolpersteine.
- Der NFC Dienst lässt sich nur nutzten wenn das Gerät entsperrt ist. Da könnte der Xposed Mod „NFC LockScreenOff Enabler“ helfen
- Es gibt mit Voice einen hervorragenden freien Audiobook Player leider weiß ich noch nicht ob er sich über ein Intent dazu bewegen lässt ein einzelnes Buch abzuspielen.
- Wie regelt man die anderen Interaktionsmöglichkeiten, leiser, lauter, vor und zurück spulen?
- Wenn das funktioniert ist die Tonqualität die aus dem Handylausprecher kommt ausreichend (ich denke schon).
- Dann gibt es da noch ein Konkurrenz Produkt Jooki das sieht auch spannend aus.
Leider verraten sie noch recht wenig darüber wie das wirklich technisch abläuft und womit Ihre App arbeitet. Da es ein Crowdfunding Sache ist bleibt abzuwarten was da raus kommt. Sie sind jedenfalls schon ein paar Monate überfällig.
UPDATE: Einer der Jooki Gründer hat sich unten in den Kommentaren geäußert und was er sagt klingt vielversprechend (keine Cloud notwendig) und schlüssig (Teurer weil kein angeschlossenes Content-Vertriebsmodell) und ich hab sowohl dieses Video also auch einen Text gefunden der das Gerät ganz gut erklärt.

Ich bin unentschieden wie und ob ich mit dem Thema weiter umgehen will aber zumindest sind jetzt alle meine Überlegungen an einem Ort.
Meine bescheidenen Versuche das Voice über einen Intent ein bestimmtes Hörbuch abspielt sind bis jetzt recht erfolglos und Xposed habe ich auf dem Nougat Gerät auch noch nicht zum laufen bekommen. Daher tendiere ich tatsächlich zum „Außenseiter“ Jooki.

I’m Pieter, one of the people behind Jooki. Google alerted me about your post, and I feel compelled to comment. Sorry for posting in English but my German is not very good. I hope you and your readers don’t mind.
I think you will find that Jooki allows to do exactly what you are describing. In the simplest use model the Wifi in Jooki is simply used to copy your MP3’s onto the on-board storage and configure the player. No cloud needed. After such an initial setup step you can turn off the Wifi.
Of course you will need Wifi enabled if you want to use the smartphone app to control settings such as volume in real time. Also if you want to stream from the internet it obviously has to be enabled. Note that we also include Bluetooth functionality. This not only allows you to use Jooki as a speaker, but also enables the use of wireless headphones.
We built Jooki to play music, not just stories (even though it can). And we built it to sound good. In my opinion there is no reason why we would settle for sub-par audio performance if we’re dealing with kids. After all, their hearing is a lot better than ours as adults.
Focusing on quality music playback does raise the bar on the hardware used. We support playback of lossless audio files up to 96kHz sample rate (even though that’s probably overkill). We have stereo sound and proper frequency response. We are working on integrating Spotify and other services to open up a world of content.
The downside of allowing people to use any content they want is that you can’t use content sales to subsidise the cost of the player. And with all the capabilities we included we do end up with a fairly expensive device. It’s a comment we often get, but it’s very hard to build a quality device on a shoestring budget.
I do want to make a case that Jooki is a lot more than just a toy. It is an adult-grade music player with a kids-friendly interface. It can play any music, whether it is a lullaby or a Beatles album. It will not end up in a corner somewhere after a few months because the kids grow out of it. The player doesn’t have to evolve with the kids, it’s only a delivery mechanism. The content has to evolve, and with Jooki it can. Even if the figurines are „not cool“ anymore, it still doubles as a bluetooth speaker.

Thanks for your comment I really appreciate it and that’s great news to me. Even if I like the look and handling of the Toneie Box more, your arguments are convincing and my wife like your device more so I guess its a very personal thing.
But I have questions left :
Will I be able to use my own NFC tags ?
Do you sell your NFC tags/figures separately what will be the price ? (One „Creative Tonie“ figure cost about 12 Euro which I think is overpriced.)
So I really thing about buying one even if the price is more than double than the Tonie Box (180€ vs. 80€) and function wise nearly the same hardware (WLAN, NFC, 4GB Storage). I like what I know about your company and your open sustainable(with the parents as user group in mind) concept. What i think is solved to easy is the charging via a cable that is not very child friendly. Inductive charging would be nice but probably raise the price. But a dockingstation where the kids put the Jooki on is pretty simple technology.
